This is a private experience exclusively for your group – no other participants will join. The experience is available for groups of at least 4 people. You can book it directly through our website at least 14 days in advance. If you wish to make a reservation with shorter notice, please contact us at info@nallikarisafaris.fi to inquire about availability. If you're traveling alone or with a smaller group, you can join our weekly program.
Embark on a journey of mystical winter fishing in the evening or nighttime. The burbot, known for its snake-like appearance and delicious flavour, emerges to spawn in the cold, dark waters of the River Oulu delta. This unique experience is available for a limited time each year, typically from mid-January to late February, capturing the essence of the coldest and darkest winter nights.
We will meet either at our Nallikari Experience Center or at your accommodation in Oulu, where we will provide thermal clothing. From there, transportation to Kuusisaari begins.
Kuusisaari is located close to Oulu’s vibrant city center. As night falls, the city’s lights cast a magical glow over the icy landscape, creating a surreal fishing environment.
Upon reaching the chosen fishing spot, you’ll find a heated tent waiting for you. This warm shelter provides comfort and respite from the chilly winter air, ensuring a pleasant experience throughout the night.
You’ll have the opportunity to drill your own hole in the ice, and our guide will demonstrate effective techniques for baiting and luring burbots, sharing tips and tricks to enhance your fishing experience.
With a little luck, you’ll experience the thrill of catching a burbot.
Fishing technique: A special burbot ice fishing technique using heavy lures that are bounced near the bottom, aided by a sonar fish finder.
Typical catch: Burbot weighing 1-2 kg.
Catch probability: Average. Burbots get caught fairly often, but sometimes they only show up in the sonar or let themselves know through bites in the lure.
What is done with the catch: The customer can choose an appropriate amount of fish for food. If there is an overflow of catch, the rest are released.
