Step onto the frozen Gulf of Bothnia in Oulu and leave the shore behind as you walk across the sea towards our heated Arctic camp. Surrounded by a vast landscape of snow and ice, darkness and silence, you will experience the northern winter from a completely different perspective.
And if the Northern Lights appear above the frozen sea, the night may become even more unforgettable.

A Winter Night on the Frozen Sea
Your Arctic evening begins at the Nallikari Experience Center, located directly on the shore of the Gulf of Bothnia. We first change into warm thermal winter clothing before stepping outside and heading onto the frozen sea.
Walking onto the sea after dark is an experience in itself.
During the coldest months of the year, the sea in front of Oulu transforms into a vast frozen landscape. Where there is open water during the summer, you can now walk across snow and ice under the northern sky.
Our nighttime camp is located directly on the frozen sea. Inside the traditional-style tent, a wood-burning stove keeps the space warm and cosy, while outside the campfire burns in the middle of the Arctic landscape.
Gather around the fire, enjoy hot drinks and snacks, and experience the darkness and silence around you. Your guide shares stories about the frozen sea, northern winter nature and the Aurora Borealis.
Throughout the evening, we also keep an eye on the northern sky.
If the Northern Lights appear, you may have the opportunity to watch them above the frozen Gulf of Bothnia – far from the experience of simply looking at the sky from a city street or hotel window.
The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed. But the frozen sea is already there.
Whether the sky brings Northern Lights, stars, snowfall or clouds, the heart of this experience remains the same: spending a winter night on the frozen sea of Oulu, surrounded by darkness, snow and ice, with a warm fire burning beside you.

Christmas Eve (December 24) and Christmas Day (December 25): €145 / adult (13+), €120 / child (4–12).
Price includes: Thermal winter clothing (overalls, gloves, beanie and boots), guidance by trained guides, stove-heated tent on the frozen sea, campfire experience, snacks and hot beverages.

The Arctic Northern Lights Camp is designed as a complete nighttime experience regardless of the Northern Lights forecast. The tour also operates during cloudy or snowy conditions and will not be cancelled, rescheduled or replaced because of a low probability of seeing the Northern Lights.
The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and sightings can never be guaranteed.
Customers always have the right to cancel their participation, in which case we will refund 75% of the service price.
Customers may reschedule their participation to another available date, subject to availability. A rescheduling fee of €20 per person will apply.

Can you see the Northern Lights in Oulu?
Yes. Oulu sits at about 65°N on Finland's Arctic coast, and on clear, dark nights from autumn to early spring the aurora is regularly visible. Nothing in nature is guaranteed, but the chance is real, and out on the frozen sea you are away from city lights.
When is the best time to see the Northern Lights in Oulu?
The season runs roughly from late September to the end of March. The dark months from December to March give the longest viewing windows, and March is one of the best months of the whole winter.
Are the Northern Lights guaranteed?
No. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and no honest operator can promise them. That is why we build the whole evening around the frozen sea itself, so the night is worth it whatever the sky does.
Do you run the camp if there are no Northern Lights?
Yes. The camp goes ahead regardless of the aurora forecast. It is a complete winter night on the frozen sea, with a fire-warmed tent, campfire, hot drinks and snacks.
