Finnish Sauna and Ice Swimming on the Frozen Sea in Oulu
Experience a traditional Finnish sauna evening in a setting you won't find anywhere else: on the frozen sea, right next to the city of Oulu. On selected winter evenings a wood-heated tent sauna warms up on the ice in front of Nallikari, giving you the chance to relax, unwind and enjoy the silence of Arctic winter nature, just 15 minutes from the city centre.
As darkness falls and the frozen sea surrounds you, the atmosphere turns magical. Inside the tent, wooden benches and soft löyly steam create a cosy, authentic sauna. When you feel ready, you can take a refreshing dip in a crystal-clear ice hole, cut into shallow water with a sandy bottom. The ice swim is always optional: many guests find it the highlight, but the evening is just as good if you prefer to stay warm.
You change and warm up in the indoor facilities of our Nallikari Experience Center, right next to the sauna.
What's included: wood-heated tent sauna on the frozen sea, towels and washing supplies, a nearby toilet, and changing space inside the Experience Center. Just bring your swimwear.
Duration: 2 hours · Price: 69 € / person · Season: December 22 to March 31 · The sauna seats up to 8 people at a time.

Is this a good thing to do in Oulu in winter?
Yes. A sauna and ice swim on the frozen sea is one of the most authentic things to do in Oulu on a winter evening. Because Oulu is a coastal city, the sauna sits on the sea itself, not on a lakeshore.
Do I have to go in the ice hole?
No. The ice swim is completely optional. You can enjoy the whole sauna evening without going into the water.
Is ice swimming safe?
Yes. The ice hole is in shallow water with a sandy bottom, right next to the warm sauna, and you go in at your own pace.
What should I bring?
Just your swimwear. Towels and washing supplies are included, and you can change indoors at the Experience Center.
What is a Finnish sauna like?
It is a wood-heated room where you sit on wooden benches and throw water on hot stones to make steam (löyly). It is a relaxed, everyday part of Finnish life, and everyone goes at their own comfortable pace.
