Your journey begins in Oulu, where comfortable transportation takes you to a peaceful farm surrounded by Christmas trees. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by a friendly local guide who will introduce you to the reindeer and share stories about their lives, habits, and their special connection to Finnish culture. You’ll also have the opportunity to change into thermal clothing before heading outside.
This is a small, family-run Christmas tree farm, home to three carefully cared-for reindeer. Instead of crowds and large herds, you’ll meet the reindeer personally, learn their names and stories, and enjoy unhurried time with them.
You’ll have plenty of time to feed, pet, and photograph the reindeer at your own pace.
These calm and gentle animals make the encounter safe and enjoyable for both children and adults.
After spending time outdoors with the reindeer, you’ll step into a warm wooden hut (kota), where an open fire awaits. Here, you can relax and enjoy a hot drink (traditional Finnish glögi) and a freshly baked pastry, such as a Christmas tart during the festive season.
The experience also includes a visit to the Christmas tree farm, where you’ll learn how the trees are grown and cared for throughout the seasons. You can decorate your own tree – and before Christmas Eve, guests even have the chance to choose and cut down a tree.
This slow-paced countryside visit is perfect for families, couples, and anyone who wants to experience authentic reindeer life and Finnish hospitality in a genuine rural setting – all within easy reach of Oulu city.

Here you'll find an authentic Finnish Arctic coastal city, small guided groups, and a frozen sea instead of crowds, a winter landscape you will not find in Lapland, all an easy day trip away.
Oulu is also easy to reach on your own: about 2.5 hours by train (vr.fi) or around 3 hours by bus (onnibus.com), with several departures a day.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the reindeer farm near Oulu?
The farm is a small, family-run Christmas tree farm about 20 minutes from Oulu city centre. Return transport is included, with pick-up from the Nallikari area (Nallikarinranta 10) or from the city centre by the Toripolliisi statue at Kauppatori.
How many reindeer are there?
Three. This is a small family farm, not a large reindeer park, so you get unhurried time with each animal. You will hear their names and their stories from your guide, and there is no queue to feed or photograph them.
Can I feed and photograph the reindeer?
Yes. Feeding the reindeer and photographing them are both part of the experience, and you can take as many photos as you like. The reindeer here are calm and used to visitors, so you can get close under your guide's instructions.
Is the tour suitable for small children?
Yes. The experience is family-friendly with no age limit, and the level is easy. Children aged 4–12 pay €149 and children under 4 join free. The wooden hut (kota) with its open fire gives everyone a place to warm up.
What should I wear?
Warm layers underneath are enough. Thermal overalls, gloves, a beanie and boots are included in the price. We recommend a thermal or wool base layer, a fleece or wool jumper and warm socks. Keep your phone or camera warm, as cold drains batteries fast.
Can we cut down our own Christmas tree?
Before Christmas Eve, yes. Guests can choose and cut down a tree at the farm, and decorating your own tree is part of the experience throughout the season. If you would like to take a tree with you, let us know when you book.
What is glögi, and what do we eat on the farm?
Glögi is a traditional Finnish spiced winter drink, served hot. You will enjoy a cup of it with a freshly baked pastry inside the kota, a traditional Finnish wooden hut with an open fire in the middle.
How long does the experience take?
About three hours in total, including return transport from Oulu. Tours start at 10:00 and 14:00 on selected dates between 1 December and 31 March, so you can fit the farm visit into either half of your day.
Is the farm in Lapland?
No. The farm is near Oulu, in the North Ostrobothnia region, just south of Lapland. You still get reindeer, snow and a warm kota, without the long journey north. Read more in our guide: Is Oulu in Lapland?
Can we see the Northern Lights on the same day?
Not on this tour, as it runs in daylight. From 22 December you can join our Arctic Northern Lights Camp in the evening, and until 21 December, Autumn Aurora Stories by the Sea. Oulu sits at 65°N, so the aurora is visible on clear, dark nights.
Is the tour available at Christmas and New Year?
Yes, on selected dates. Please note that prices may be higher on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and other public holidays. December dates fill up first, so we recommend booking well in advance.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel 14 or more days before the tour for a full refund, or 7–14 days before for a 50% refund. Cancellations made less than 7 days before departure are charged in full.
