Experience the thrill of ice fishing on the frozen sea of Oulu – feel the strike, see the fish rise from the depths, and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the Arctic winter.
Season: December 22 – March 31
Time: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM (We always start ice fishing in the morning, as fish are typically most active and feed during the early hours in winter.)
This is a public tour with no minimum number of participants. Just look at the calendar for a free day and make a booking! If your group consists of at least 6 people and you would like to book the service exclusively for your group, please choose the Arctic Sea Ice Fishing (private) option.
Arctic Sea Ice Fishing is our most popular winter experience. The Oulu sea area, located in the Gulf of Bothnia, turns into a frozen wonderland during the winter months, offering beautiful views over the frozen sea and the city skyline. The fish-rich sea is also an excellent place for ice fishing, and we usually catch fish on almost every trip.
Our experience begins at the Nallikari Experience Center, located right on the Nallikari shoreline in front of the frozen sea, where we gear up in warm thermal clothing.
From there, we head out on foot—just a short 5–15 minute walk—onto the frozen sea. As the snow crunches underfoot and the horizon opens up, you'll feel the stillness of the Arctic morning all around you. If the wind picks up or temperatures drop, our guide sets up a heated tent to provide shelter from the elements. It's also possible to ice fish inside the warm tent.
Once at the fishing site, everyone gets the chance to drill their own hole in the ice. Our experienced fishing guide will then show you how to bait the hook and use small movements to lure fish beneath the ice.
We also use a sonar fish finder, which allows you to actually see the fish swimming below and reacting to your lure—making the moment of the strike even more exciting.
No previous fishing experience is needed—just a sense of curiosity and a willingness to embrace the calm, quiet magic of the Arctic sea in winter.
