Why a small farm?
Many reindeer visits are built for big groups. This one isn’t. The farm is home to three carefully cared-for reindeer, so you actually get time with each of them. You will learn their names and stories, and nobody rushes you on to the next thing.
It is a good fit for families with small children, for anyone seeing a reindeer up close for the first time, and for travellers who want a gentle, cosy experience rather than an adrenaline rush.
What happens on the tour
1. Pick-up. We collect you from the Nallikari area or from Oulu city centre, by the Toripolliisi statue at the market square.
2. Get ready for the cold. Thermal overalls, gloves, a beanie and boots are included, so you can leave the heavy gear at home.
3. Meet the reindeer. Feed them, walk with them and take as many photos as you like, while your guide tells you about each of them.
4. Visit the Christmas tree farm. Decorate your own tree. Before Christmas Eve, you can also choose and cut down a tree.
5. Warm up in the kota. Step into a traditional wooden hut with an open fire for a cup of Finnish glögi and a freshly baked pastry.
6. Back to Oulu. The whole experience takes about three hours, including transport.

Reindeer are often thought of as a Lapland thing, but Oulu is closer to reindeer country than most people think. What to wear
We provide the outer layer. Underneath, wear warm layers: a thermal or wool base layer, a warm mid-layer such as a fleece or wool jumper, and warm socks. Bring a fully charged phone or camera, as the cold drains batteries quickly.
Make a winter day of it
The reindeer tour pairs nicely with other experiences in our weekly programme:
• Until 21 December: end the day with Autumn Aurora Stories by the Sea in the evening.
• From 22 December: spend the evening at the Arctic Northern Lights Camp, or try Arctic Sea Ice Fishing on another morning.
• After a cold day: warm up at the Frozen Sea Tent Sauna & Ice Swimming.

Is the tour suitable for small children?
Yes. There is no age limit, and children under 4 join for free.
How far is the reindeer farm from Oulu?
About 20 minutes from the city. Return transport is included.
Can we cut down our own Christmas tree?
Yes, before Christmas Eve you can choose and cut down a tree. You can also decorate your own tree on the farm.
Is the tour in English?
Yes, all tours in our weekly programme are guided in English.
Do I need my own winter clothing?
Just warm layers underneath. Thermal overalls, gloves, a beanie and boots are included.
Is the farm in Lapland?
No, it is near Oulu in North Ostrobothnia. You still get reindeer, snow and a warm kota, without the long journey north.
